I’ve had a Tinkerbelle costume since 2006 when we went to a masquerade Halloween party as Tinkerbelle and Captain Hook.DSCN0535I’ve always wanted to run a race in that costume. No, I don’t know why. I probably shouldn’t analyze it too much.

Sunday was the 2nd annual Boos & Brews 5K in Winston Salem. As soon as I heard about it and saw pictures of the race where people were wearing costumes, I knew I had to do it. I tweeted my friend Meghan about it (whom I actually met through Twitter) and we both signed up. 298775_248571095189998_100001113290843_625825_339322103_n(Do you see me?)

With wings. boo-1

Meghan also had wings!boo-1-2

I kind of wanted to die on a very steep hill. It lasted ¾ mile. And it was s.t.e.e.p. I guess that’s the race director’s trick instead of a treat.

My elbows got chafed from hitting my glittery wings. IMG_1223

But I had a blast. I definitely didn’t beat my PR but I’ll definitely be back next year. Costume races rock.

And there were some awesome costumes. My favorite was a 7 months pregnant woman who had painted her belly like a pumpkin. Hilarious. And brave.

I also liked the guy who ran in an inflatable fat man sumo suit. I don’t know how he didn’t die on the hill. (Holla Amy’s husband!)297943_248578981855876_100001113290843_625878_2062927195_n

“And her little dog too” ran with a gal. Get it? ha! 297845_248579608522480_100001113290843_625880_1077025036_n

A man dressed as a cowboy told me after the race that it was a little demoralizing to be passed by Tinkerbelle. And even more so when he saw I was running “in those toe shoes.” Sorry man. Tinks got wings.booshoes-12

Have you run a race in a costume? Would you?

    1. Wow, if I were interested in running, with WS being so close, I’d be on that race like bunny ears on Regina George.

I think I’d go as fire or ice or something like that. No wing chaffing, bonus points for having flowy bits.

      You look fierce, and oh-so-magical.

    2. That looks like so much fun! Love the costume!
I ran in the Disneyland Half Marathon and lots of people were dressed up though it was wasn’t technically a costume race. One guy ran the whole race with Mickey feet! I would totally run in a costume race!

    3. That sumo costume is hilarious! And you my dear look adorable, as always =)

I have never done a costume race, but am sure I will eventually.

    4. Oh my gosh, that looks like so much fun! We have a race like that here called the “Scream Scram” – I am going to do it next year for sure!

    5. Hahaa, love the toe shoe comment. 🙂 You are way too cute. Can’t believe I get to see you in 1.5 weeks!! And daaaamn girl, look at those LEGS!!!!

      • THANK YOU!!! made my day! 🙂 I’m excited to show you my legs in person in 1.5 weeks! 😉

    6. Haha, oh my gosh you are adorable!! Okay but the guy in the sumo costume just made me laugh out loud! What a fun race.

    7. That looks like so much fun!! I love it “Tinks got wings!”

The sumo guy looks hilarious. I don’t think I could run with that much drag. 😛

    8. I ran a Halloween 10K as a hot dog one year and loved it! There’s a picture of me in the post linked below. My favorite comment was from a guy who said, “Nice buns!” as he passed me.

    9. Burst out laughing when I read what the guy said about ‘being passed by Tinkerbelle in those toe shoes’. You’re a real champ, girl 😛 this run looked like a ton of fun!

    10. The race looks like a blast! And you made a wonderful Tinkerbelle. I love all things sparkly and glittery! I can’t believe the sumo guy though. How did he not pass out from heat exhaustion?!

    11. So. Much. Fun.

Definitely doing it next year. And you still ran like the wind even with the drag from your wings! And that hill! Your time was awesome!!

    12. Wow, I wish I knew about this race…. I live in Greensboro and it would’ve been so close for me to go….It looked so fun! Where do you find these races? I usually look at runningintheusa website, but I don’t all races are listed there!
Love the costume and the comment from the cowboy…. hilarious! And the time… awesome!

      • I found this one just because there were signs all over W-S! I also find lots of small, local races through the local running stores websites.

    13. Yay for costume races! I’m doing the Halloween Half in UT this weekend. Super excited. My group is going as runaway prison inmates. Runaways. Get it?!…yeah, we think we’re funny. But I would like to race in wings someday. Love your costume! Way to go!
