Beautycounter has been discontinued! Read about what happened to Beautycounter (and when it might come back) here. In the meantime, I have lots of great recommendations for Beautycounter product swaps linked in this post. 2022 UPDATE: Beautycounter sadly discontinued these wipes to make room for other products. I used them daily so I had to find a good alternative. I LOVE the Ursa Major Essential Face Wipes now. They’re individually wrapped, which helps keep them from drying out, and makes them SO great for traveling. I keep them in my car in case I need to clean up after a sweaty run.

One of the most important factors in having clear skin is washing your face. That goes without saying, right? But I rarely hop in the shower right after I workout, especially now that Thomas normally needs me right after I work out. These days I’m using the makeup wipes to give myself a little “bird bath” when I can’t hop right in the shower or wash my face right away.

If I don’t sweat a TON (e.g. I did yoga or some gentle strength training), I don’t feel the need to wash my face right away. But, if I worked up a serious sweat while running, riding the Peloton or doing a more intense strength workout, it’s really important to wash my face right afterwards.

Sweat can clog pores, leading to breakouts and I definitely don’t want that. For those extra-sweaty days, I swear by Beautycounter’s Makeup Remover Wipes. They’re also amazing for those nights when I’m just too tired to do my usual skincare routine.

I always joke that you can find these EVERYWHERE. I have them in my car, my gym bag, my office, and my bathroom drawer. Makeup wipes and lipstick, they’re everywhere.

I know, I know –– makeup remover wipes have been around for a long time, but honestly, I always hated them. They left my skin feeling raw and left a sticky residue on my face, but not these. My skin feels clean but hydrated, which is exactly what I want! Let’s dive into what makes them different, shall we?

Many face wipes have nasty ingredients, but these wipes are made with a gentle micellar formula that removes makeup and cleanses skin. Micelles are tiny balls of cleansing molecules suspended in soft water. The micelles attract and break down dirt and oil, then whisk it away without drying out the skin.

The wipes themselves are made with lyocell, which is made from 100% wood-based cellulose fibers, and that means they’re compostable.

Beautycounter Makeup Remover Wipes Ingredients

Aloe: rich in vitamins B, C, and E to soothe and hydrate. It helps heal wounds, too!

Cornflower water: calms and soothes skin.

Sodium Cocoyl Apple Amino Acids: mild surfactant derived from apple seeds, also has gentle cleansing properties.

Pros

Perfect for all skin types

These wipes are so gentle that they truly work well for every skin type. I found that drugstore brand of face wipes always left my skin super dry and red. And the Beautycounter makeup remover wipes don’t have a gritty, rough texture like many other wipes do.

Take off ALL of my makeup

These take off EVERYTHING, even stubborn, waterproof eye makeup. You can literally see everything that was on your face. It’s almost gross but also weirdly satisfying. If I have a lot of makeup on, I’ll use these before using my regular cleanser for a double cleanse. They’re great for touching up the edges of lipstick too.

No need to rinse

With other wipes, I felt like I needed to rinse my face afterwards. I always felt like there was sticky residue on my face and I never felt like my face was clean. The Beautycounter wipes don’t have soap in them, so there’s nothing sticky left behind! If you’ve ever used micellar water to take off your makeup, these feel similar, but remove makeup better with the cloth texture.

Make doing my makeup easier

Do you ever feel like you put on too much blush and wish you could take a little off without washing your face? These wipes are my saving grace for that – I just gently press the wipe on the area to remove a little pigment. When I mess up my eyeliner or eyeshadow, I use the corner of these wipes to clean up those lines. And, I won’t lie, if I use them for that, I’ll stick them back in the pouch rather than waste a whole wipe. Maybe not the most sanitary, but I gotta be real!

Perfect for travel

Like I said, I always have a pack of these in my car since I like to have them them handy after a run when I’m driving home. I also tuck a pack into my carry-on when flying or making a long car trip. It’s such a good feeling to clean my face when I arrive, especially if I’m getting in late. (You can read more of my packing tips here.)

One wipe goes a LONG way

When I use these after running or riding the Peloton, I can use it to wipe down my entire body. Head to toe. Seriously. I know many women will cut a wipe in half to use for their face since you don’t necessarily need a full wipe for just for your face.

Biodegradable

The wipes can be composted! Beautycounter did a study showing these wipes will completely disintegrate in 12 weeks while other brands had not even started to disintegrate.

Safe for your eyes

I have somewhat sensitive eyes and I can use these to remove eye makeup without issues. These wipes don’t make my eyes water or burn.

Cons

On the expensive side

They’re definitely more expensive than drugstore options, but they feel so much better and leave my skin feeling so much better. Plus, they use safer ingredients. Like I mentioned above, I know a lot of people cut them in half to help them last longer! (For tips on how to save money when buying Beautycounter, be sure to read this post!)

I honestly can’t think of anything else I don’t love about these (except for the fact that they were out of stock for so long!!). I’m so glad they’re back!

Bottom Line

These are, hands down, the best makeup wipes I’ve tried – and I tried dozens over the years. If your skin gets irritated by makeup wipes, these are worth a try! Plus, Beautycounter has a 60 day return policy so if you don’t love them, you can send them back for a full refund.
