If you’ve followed me on Instagram for a while, you’ve probably seen one of Tommy’s famous “un-boxing” videos. A year or so ago, his favorite brand ever, Duck Head Clothing, saw one of the stories I shared on Instagram. And after hearing how much Tommy loves their clothes, they sent the most generous package to him. When it arrived, I filmed him opening it, trying it on and sharing his thoughts, and I don’t think I’ve ever received as many DMs as I did that day.
After such a positive response (both from Tommy in getting free swag from his favorite brand AND my followers in watching him unbox the gift), we figured Tommy needed a little more camera time. So when Duck Head sent yet ANOTHER PR box to Tommy, he got another shining moment.
He’s established a bit of credibility with his clothing recommendations for guys, which brings me to this post: Tommy’s favorite pieces from Duck Head. Duck head is the only brand (and I mean ONLY) he wears. Except maybe Peter Millar that his mom buys for him and still, that’s only occasionally when his Duck Head clothing is in the wash or in need of an iron. (Tommy irons literally EVERYTHING he wears except t-shirts.)
Today I thought it would be fun to share Tommy’s favorite pieces so that you can do a little shopping for the guys in your life. Fortunately Tommy has superb style, but if your husband need a little help in the wardrobe department, or even if he just needs to refresh some things in his closet, I hope this post is helpful for you! Oh, and the majority of these picks are also great gift ideas, so you may want to throw an item or two in your cart and save it for Christmas.
And I’m going to see if Tommy’s camera time can become a regular thing. Maybe like Tuesdays withTommy. That sounds like a good ritual, right??
I giggled when I wrote this section because Tommy is so passionate about vests. He lovingly refers to the fall as “vest season” and gets so excited when he finally gets to pull out his favorite Duck Head Overland Quilted Vest. The Overland Quilted Vest is one of three vests Duck Head makes and it’s the perfect lightweight layer. The design is a quilted puffer with a standing collar, welt hand pockets, and hidden snap placket. It’s a little more rugged looking than their other two vests because of the flap chest pockets. Tommy loves to wear it with a plaid button down shirt. I think of this vest as an outer layer versus something you’d wear under a coat, mostly because of the chest pockets. If you’re looking for something that can work as an inner and outer layer, you might want to go with the Fremont Performance Quilted Vest (which he also owns and loves).
Next on Tommy’s list of favorites is the Dunmore 1/4 Zip Pullover. This is a classic fit 1/4 zip, but the quality and material are stand-outs. It’s made with a blend of polyester, tencel, cotton and spandex. It makes it a great performance option for a round of golf, but it’s also soft and polished enough to wear into the office. It’s also odor resistant! Tommy wears this over a golf polo to work almost daily.
One of the reasons Tommy loves Duck Head so much is because he claims their pants and shorts fit better than any other brand he’s tried. They’re not too tight, not too loose, not too dressy, not too casual, and not too thick or thin. He has most colors that Duck Head offers in the Classic Fit Gold School Chino. They run true to size and come in 5 different inseams.
The Performance Poplin Sport Shirt is Duck Head’s classic button down shirt. The fabric is unlike any other shirt I’ve felt in Tommy’s closet. They use rayon from bamboo to make their performance fabric even softer. It’s lightweight and has UV protection, so you can wear it outdoors easily. It’s also practically wrinkle-free. But, like I mentioned, he irons nearly every piece of clothing he wears prior to wearing it. But I promise these don’t need ironing. These button downs come in a ton of patterns and colors, and Tommy has the majority of them. If I had to pick just one that I like the best at the moment, it’s the Boswell Plaid.
Tommy doesn’t actually own this jacket, but it’s on his list. (And likely what I’ll get him for Christmas.) I mentioned the Fremont Performance Quilted Quilt above as a great option for an inner or outerlayer, and this jacket has the same qualities. The Fremont Performance Quilted jacket is made from 100% polyester and has 100 g/m2 polyester insulation. It means it’s not bulky at all, but still provides REALLY good warmth. The finish is actually water-repellent too. So, it’s hard to imagine a time when this jacket wouldn’t be the perfect layer.
This Chambliss Plaid Sport Coat is another Duck Head piece Tommy doesn’t have. However, I think it would be an amazing option for any guy who needs to wear sport coats but hates how stuffy they can feel. While I can’t verify the comfort level myself, if it’s anything like Duck Head’s other clothes, it’s perfect. I feel confident recommending this sport coat just on the basis that we’ve never found something Tommy didn’t love from Duck Head. I love the Chambliss Plaid colorway for fall.
Tommy also loves Duck Head’s polos. However, since we’re almost to the full on fall season, I figured I’d stick to cooler weather finds this time! However, if you need polos for your guy, those are 100% his favorite. I’ll be sure to update this post with warm weather finds as we near spring.
