The weather was all over the place in North Carolina last month, so one day I was in short sleeves and the next I was in oversized cozy sweaters. But hey, that’s fall, right? If I had to pick 3 items that are my favorite fall wardrobe picks that also work well all winter long, it would be my Sam Edelman Loafers, which you’ll see all over this post. And I’m excited to get some cute socks to wear with them when the temps drop.
Second, my On Cloud sneakers – they’re so cute with jeans and SO comfy, and I wear them a lot more than I expected when I bought them.
And lastly, my Patagonia jacket. You won’t see it in tons of photos in this post, but since things have cooled down in the past week, I’ve worn it literally every day. And, like in years past, I fully expect to wear it every day for the next 4-5 months. (You can see it on me repeated in this post. You’ll never spend better money on a coat, I swear.
Okay, onto last month’s outfits! Lots of things are on sale in this outfit round-up so be sure to click through on anything you’re eying!
Do you like my boot? Okay, so maybe not my finest fashion statement, but at least I have on my On Cloud shoes. I appreciate that these are minimal and pair perfectly with jeans. And, they’re a perfect height to try to even out the boot! (Here’s why I’m in a walking cast.)
These jeans are some of my favorites. I wanted something a little distressed but I didn’t want them to be too trendy or ripped up. And, they’re under $65! And yep, On Cloud sneakers again.
I love the neckline of v-necks vs. a crew neck tee since it’s more feminine and it layers better under sweaters. I have nearly every solid color from J.Crew and I love this striped one from Madewell.
I LOVE vests. I have a few Patagonia vests that I love and this one is from LL Bean. This flannel is a staple I’ve had for the last 3 years. I love the dark green color (but it also comes in a lot more options)!
I’ve always liked stripes. This top has a boat neckline which I loooove. And you can’t really tell, but these pants are burgundy which is a fun change from dark denim. AND – they’re under $55, y’all.
Here’s a better photo of the purple jeans!
This gray sweater is the best. I’m going to be wearing this all winter with jeans. I love a thin sweater because it layers so well. You could add a scarf or necklace to dress it up, or add a belt and front tuck it. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but I’m wearing the faux SPANX leggings that I raved about during the Nordstrom anniversary sale. Everyone was freaking about them so I figured I’d try them. And yep, I love them too. They’re pretty tight, but they, I guess that’s the point of SPANX. (First timer here!)
I usually wear my Hunter rainboots when the weather is bad, but lately I’ve been wearing these black Chelsea rain boots. I like that they’re so lightweight.
This is the same outfit as above, but with a coat that I’m currently obsessing over. The best news is that even though it’s really old, I’ve found the EXACT same coat and I linked it here! They have a few other colors, too. It’s seriously the perfect weight–kind of like a wind breaker!
I always take a denim jacket with me when I fly. Not only is it great when the plane is FREEZING, but it goes with practically everything in my suitcase for the rest of the trip. And it’s light enough to throw in my leather tote. If I’m going somewhere for business and I need to dress a little nicer, I swap the denim jacket for this light blazer.
This red blouse is a new favorite in my closet. It’s perfect for fall because it’s light and airy. I tucked it all the way in my jeans but it’s cute front tucked as well. This belt is by Madewell – it’s a perfect simple leather belt, a must for a timeless wardrobe. And of course, since it’s Madewell, the leather is incredible.
These loafers are in almost every single photo for the rest of this section. I can’t rave about them enough. They’re SO comfortable and come in lots of other colors. They didn’t require any breaking in time — I took them out of a box and wore them for three days straight when I traveled to a blog conference. I just ordered the black ones.
Here’s a better picture of them! They look like they could be the Gucci ones, but they are Sam Edelman so the price is much more doable. Aren’t they cute?
I’ve been raving about these red pants all month. They are SO fun and festive. They’re skinny so they work well with flats and boots. I think you could wear these with a blazer and dress them up a little bit too. Shop them here! Loafers back at it again. I kid you not, best shoes of the season.
I wore this outfit on a flight when I had to go straight to a meeting after I landed. This light blazer is from Target so (a) it’s crazy affordable and (b) it’s stretchy and soft, unlike most blazers.
I posted a video on my Instagram last week that went through what I pack when I travel, and this faux leather tote is one of those must-haves in this outfit round-up. If I’m going to bring this bag, it acts as my purse for the whole trip. (You can see more of my packing tips here.)
This raincoat was the best purchase of 2018. I got it for my trip to Ireland and I’ve worn it a million times since then. Barbour is a little pricey, but so worth it. I know this coat will last me forever, and it works so well with everything in my closet and this outfit round-up.
This linen blend button down top is one of my favorite transition pieces. It’s lightweight and naturally a little wrinkled, which you can get away with because heyyyy linen.
This was another travel outfit I wore this month. I traveled SO much this fall (3 cross-country trips in 3 weeks!). I’m so glad to be done traveling for a little while so I can enjoy down time with Tommy and Maizey! I wore the target blazer for this flight and then paired out with 2 other outfits on my trip.
Unfortunately, this entire outfit is old and I can’t link the exact pieces, but I found a few similar alternatives.
I post this jumpsuit in almost every outfit round-up because I wear it that often! It’s old but this one is so similar. And I ALWAYS travel with a jumpsuit since it can be dressy or casual.
When I found out that we were going to have a country-themed dinner party at the Beautycounter trip I attended a few weeks back, I was so happy I had just purchased this dress. I originally bought it to wear with heels but it worked out perfectly with my boots, which my late-aunt gave to me years ago. (She grew up around horses and in the country and had them custom made when she was my age!) I like the off the shoulder style, and since the trip was in California, it was perfect!
I got so many kind compliments about this dress when I wore it to the Beautycounter retreat. We had so many fun events while were were there and I loved getting to wear my summery dresses again this fall. I got this dress a few years ago from ASOS and I can’t find it anymore, but I linked a few other options.
Also, let’s talk about these heels. They go with EVERYTHING and are my go-to for cocktail parties year-round. (They look great with jeans too.) Plus, they’re so flattering, comfortable to wear all night (even walking on grass) and the nude color + thin ankle straps help elongate legs.
I’m so glad this dress is finally back in stock! I have it in gray and in black, and I wear both all the time since they’re so comfortable and super flattering. (I have an XS – it runs a little large but it does shrink a bit when you wash it so size up for a looser fit!) It’s perfect for pairing with a denim jacket or leather jacket.
This midi dress was a fun purchase for me. I wasn’t sure where this would hit on my legs because I’m not tall, but it ended up being so perfect. I love how it looks, especially for the fall. Also, I got this cardigan this year also and I can’t wait to wear it more. It will look so cute with jeans and leggings too. It comes in lots of other colors, and it’s sooo soft! These heels are also a great pick for the fall. They sort of look like booties but they have a strap in the back and have a good sized heel. They’re perforated and really comfortable actually!
You might remember this dress from other outfit round-up posts, because I wore it all summer! I LOVE it. I love the cut, length, pattern, and fit. There’s nothing about this dress that I don’t love. The sandals are by Kork-Ease and they have GREAT arch support. They were game-changers when I had plantar fasciitis.
What is your must-have item in the fall and winter months?
If I could only pick ONE, it’d be the Patagonia coat I mentioned in the beginning!
