I shared earlier this fall that I wasn’t sure if I was going to do another baby registry for our second baby. After having Thomas, we planned to have another kiddo, so we saved the majority of the necessities from his birth in hopes that we’d use them again. So once we got pregnant, I started to pull those older items out, took some inventory and then make a list of items we’d need (including a few items we need two of since we still use them with Thomas).
My thought was to just buy myself whatever else was needed. But after chatting with some friends, they made a great point that people are still likely going to want to buy us baby gifts. And it makes everyone’s lives easier when there’s a simple registry to shop from. That way, I get what I really want and need, and my friends get to contribute if they’d like to without a guessing game. Win-win!
For our first registry, I basically just looked at my friend’s baby registry and copied it. I had no clue what I’d need or want, so using someone else’s as an example helped tremendously. (And then I quickly learned what was unnecessary on a baby registry.) But for baby #2, I have more experience and know what I loved using and what I didn’t use at all. It made making my second baby registry a breeze.
I shared earlier this fall that something I’m doing differently this time is using Target Baby Registry as my one-stop shop vs. registering at multiple places last time and using a consolidator website, which is honestly a bit clunky to use, especially for those shopping for gifts. I did some research and decided on Target mainly because of a few key perks:
Target actually carries everything that I was going to add to my list anyway. I personally love the idea of having all of our gifts come from one place because it makes returns so much easier, if we need to exchange anything. And while I’m there I’m sure I’ll need something else (like we all do when we step foot inside).
In today’s blog post, I’m sharing an updated peek at our registry for baby #2. The last time I shared this, I had not announced our baby’s gender, so there were no clothes or gender specific items on there. But now that the world knows we’re having another boy, I’ve updated our registry with some clothes and blankets. Our registry is not massive or exhaustive since we have a lot of the stuff we need already, but I do have a few favorite things on there that I wanted to share with all of you soon-to-be moms.
And for you experienced moms, what’s the ONE thing you’d say to put on a registry? And if you’re expecting and want input on anything, feel free to ask in the comments!
First, let’s talk about big ticket items. I have and LOVE the UppaBaby Vista 2 stroller, and we have the bassinet attachment to go with it, but Thomas absolutely hated the bassinet. I’m hoping that’s not the case, but either way, I want the Doona Car Seat & Stroller.
The Doona converts from a car seat to stroller in seconds, the size is perfect for smaller spaces, and has amazing reviews. If I could pick just one thing that I really want from our registry, it’s this. I was so thrilled when I saw that Target carries it since I can use the 15% off discount on it!
The next big ticket item on our list is the Halo Bassinet. We had the SNOO for Thomas and we absolutely loathed it. After talking on the phone with the SNOO customer service (which is awesome, by the way), we decided that SNOO wasn’t a fit for us since their recommendations were to turn off the features that SNOO is known for. (I do have to note, however, that there are a ton of families I know who adore their SNOO. It’s totally a personal thing!)
ALL of that to say, we’re going to get the Halo Bassinet this round. My friends have it and love it and it’s one of the top picks from our baby sleep consultant.
Here’s hoping that baby #2 is a better sleeper than Thomas.
They have a wall mount option but since we often moved Thomas from room to room for naps, we’re going for a floor stand version again since it’s portable. I love that the Nanit has an app so I can check on him from anywhere. I can also turn on the nightlight from my phone and see the temperature in his room.
With Thomas, we taped black garbage bags up on our windows. It was a whole ordeal and now that I know these sticky blackout shades exist, I’ll be using these darkening pleated paper window shades instead. Even though we have blackout curtains, some light still peeks out so we use these under the curtains.
I exclusively breastfed and pumped with Thomas and that’s my plan for baby #2 as well. But this time, I won’t have as much flexibility since I’ll have a 3 year old running around as well! I’m excited about this Willow Go Wearable Double Electric Breast Pump Kit since I think it’ll help me maximize my time when pumping and keep my hands free. (Even with a pumping bra, I still had to be pretty hands on).
We got this baby Brezza bottle sterilizer when I had Thomas and LOVED it. It made cleaning and sanitizing countless bottles seamless (and anything that makes your life easier as a new mom is a winner). I loved that bottles were completely dry by the time it finished.
If baby #2 is anything like Thomas, we’ll be dealing with sensitive skin. Thomas’ skin was SO dry (so is mine!), and a humidifier helped us a lot in those early months. The Frida Baby 3-in-1 Humidifier is great for a few reasons:
I have a hard time imagining that I’ll have any time to make my own lactation cookies this go-around, so these Munchkin Milkmakers Lactation Cookie Bites are going to be essential.
With Thomas, I wore nursing tanks from Target almost every single day for the first 6-8 weeks (or maybe even longer!) and then just wore a cozy cardigan over top. I’m planning to do the same thing this go around.
The regular Ergobaby overwhelmed my petite frame, and so I started using baby wraps instead and LOVED them. I’m excited to try this Ergobaby Aura Wrap!
We have the Hatch Rest in Thomas’ room and love it! We just need a second one for the new baby since Thomas still sleeps with white noise and I want to use it as a wake-up clock for him eventually. You can control it all from your phone which is a major perk too. I use that feature a lot more than I expected.
Tons of diapers for obvious reasons.
We actually got a wipe warmer when we had Thomas, but he didn’t seem to notice or care if his wipes were warm, so I ended up getting rid of it. But as I was building this registry, I remembered how much I liked when the wipes were warm, ha! Since this baby is due in the middle of winter, I think I’ll love the Munchkin Bright & Warm Wipe Wamer for round two.
We learned with Thomas that these Philips glass bottles were our favorites. We learned with Thomas that these Philips glass bottles were our favorites. This gift set comes with 5 bottles and different nipples so you have everything you need as they grow.
Just the cutest! This Skip Hop Moby Baby Set is awesome. (We have a few of the pieces and like them so we’re going for the set!)
Gross, but necessarily. The Frida Baby NoseFrida Nasal Aspirator is a great thing to have on hand, and I’m a little squeamish about using the one that’s been in storage for 2.5 years so we’re planning on getting a new one.
I somehow lost my first one, so I need a new Frida Baby Electric Nail Buffer. The buffers are so MUCH better than clippers!
Aquaphor baby healing ointment is an everyday essential I know we’ll need.
Baby wipes are another obvious essential. I prefer these unscented wipes that are water-based.
Now that I’ve shared that we’re having a boy, I’ve had a really good time looking through all the baby boy clothes!! I’m linking a handful of favorites below. This little vest and bottom set is making me melt!
